About me
I am Mel, short for Melania, an Italian based in Northern Ireland. I moved from sunny Sicily to the rainy shores of Ireland on a deceptive bright summer several years ago and that was probably the last bright summer I’ve seen over here!
In order to avoid going mad or becoming a mushroom, I try to travel as much as I can.
Travelling, exploring and recording moments on a camera are dreams that I have carried since I was a small child.
I remember browsing at my father’s old “National Geographic” magazines and day dreaming away…
I was gifted my first camera, a very old Kodak, when I was just 9 years old and I used it with parsimony as, in those days, taking pictures and getting your film developed, were expensive business.
My family brought me on several trips around Sicily, which I got to know quite well and helped me develop another of my passions: ancient history/archaeology.
Archaeology was (is) my first love and I graduated in Languages and Ancient Cultures at Palermo’s University.
I am a vegetarian (vegan when I can) and that makes travelling all the more interesting (yes, Tunisia and 8 vegetable couscous.. I am looking at you….)
We always travel around with a big bag of cat dry food, trying to feed as many animals, not just cats, as possible!
37 countries visited so far, some even more than twice, but my bucket list is not getting any shorter!
Join me on the next adventure!
